Istanbul Design Guide

Zero Istanbul, the Istanbul edition of Zero magazines, is a complimentary listing magazine published monthly as a guide to culture, entertainment and lifestyle in Istanbul. Easy to find it in cafes around Taksim. For the 1st Istanbul Design Biennial, Zero Istanbul prepared a design guide featuring 50 structures that have shaped the urban landscape of the city in the past 3 decades. here is a sample from the design guide.

The cover designed by Zaha Hadid, the first woman architect to win the Pritzker architecture prize.

Sakirin Mosque designed by Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu. An example of Islamic art with a woman’s touch.

The second bridge of the strait, FSM bridge named after Mehmet the Conqueror.

The Mediterranean sculpture by Ilhan Koman. It used to be on the main artery in the 80s, which meant I get to see it every time we visit my aunt. With my nose pressed to the window of the car, I would look at it in awe and look forward to seeing next week. The first structure as I know of sculpture! Now tucked away between the high rises in the middle of the financial district, it has almost disappeared from the cityscape and the collective memory.
